Not surprisingly Giuliana, E Networks's show Fashion Police host, makes offensive remarks about Zendaya's dreads. Now for those of us who are not familiar with Fashion Police, it is a show in which several host critic outfits of celebrities. Last week the Oscar's fashion was a topic on the show and Disney star, Zendaya was being criticized by these hosts when Giuliana stated "I love Zendaya's style and I love when she has the little [pixie cut] hair -- she just had it -- I think she's such a tiny frame that this hair to me overwhelms her," she said. "I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed. Maybe weed. It's legal now. So that's what I think, yeah, this look isn't working", referring to her dreads. Not was this statement just rude but extremely racist towards the African American community.
Zendaya responded to this aired comment about her in a sophisticated way using Instagram by posting this statement.
After this was out the Giuliana decided to apologize on twitter and on air ...
“I’d really like to address something that is weighing very heavy on my heart. I want to apologize for a comment that I made on last night’s ‘Fashion Police’ about Zendaya’s hair,”
The thing about this story is that many other African American celebrities decided to come forth and support Zendaya, for example Solange also stated that Fashion Police have been commenting on her afro for years, and other magazines compare it to a dog. Lauren London, another African American actress, posted an Instagram photo supporting Zendaya.
The way the media attacks at black culture is disrespectful, it is like they are trying to make these black celebrities feel ugly by down talking on the way they choose to fix their hair.
BUT when anther race tries out dreads they are praised, for example when Kylie Jenner put up a picture on Instagram with dreads Cosmopolitan magazine stated "they look amazing on her". So why is it that other races can be celebrated when attempting a AFRICAN AMERICAN tradition, but the people who these traditions originate from are being despised?
